Location

hi all
madeline holt - location team
so i have been looking at venues that are more specific to your requests i.e west end, gallery and free and here is what i have been able to come up with

  • circle art gallery
31 Annerly Road, Annerly (opposite Davies Park markets)
They have about 85+m of wall space and they do alot of student exhibitions there, meaning discount for students!
here are the problems...
i rang and spoke to manuel perkins (gallery owner) he is currently overseas and he asked me to email my request, but he will not be able to answer it for two weeks (until he gets back)
he also said that they are pretty much booked out a year in advanced.... which has been the problem with most galleries in west end

  • Dogget Street Studio
85 Dogget street, newstead
i have tried contacting the directors and i'm yet to get a reply but here is what i have gathered from the place so far
the place has constant exhibitions on for the next few months (just from looking at the schedual)
it doesn't look like a student friendly place so i don't think it's going to be cheap. they have a good floor space overall but it's all divided up into mini spaces
also it's a decent location, not sure about parking.

another couple of places that may fit the brief

  • 9Lives, 694 Ann St, fortitude valley
  • Jugglers, 103 brunswick St, Fortitude Valley
  • Heiser Gallery, 90 Arthur St, fortitude Valley
most of these places don't look like they will be available on such short notice

from doing research i still think the fort is the best location
  • it will actually fit all our artwort AND guests
  • we get the location for 3 days which gives us time to do set up and pack up
  • they are funding us advertising!!!!
  • and throwing in some stuff for us to use to set up with
  • the date is actually free
  • and to be honest what they are offering us the price is well within reason
p.p.s spoke to some girls from an events management course at tafe and they had some awesome graphic/advertising signs done by Jack Loel.. he goes just across the road... plus they looked really pro.

anyway guys hope this is helpful

  2. hi, did you guys happen to look into venues at QUT? they have a few function rooms that can fit 400 people. and also the princess theatre? its available on that day, but i have no idea about prices. http://theprincesstheatre.com.
the powerhouse "turbine platform" room also fits around 500 http://www.brisbanepowerhouse.org/content/venue-info/venues/turbine-hall-platform/
theres also the old museum which fits 400+ http://oldmuseum.org/venue-hire/

just a few more to consider, as many people said that for the size of the fort it doesnt seem like a good price. xx.

  4. whats wrong with 500 bucks for the fort? including advertising?
thats already a discount of 400 bucks just for us... plus we get a day earlier to set up, and a day after to pack up...

  5. $500? the price presented in class was $900. it was more a concern about the size, as it was mentioned that it may not be big enough.

  6. imagen if we hired a night club lol what about a hall or a conference room, or like on the hillz show, they hired a church and knocked out all the chairs lol

  8. Hey, just my 2c worth but $500 for 3 days at the fort is a great price, we might not be able to get as large prints as we would like but I think it's more important for us to find a place than to hold out for another 3 weeks looking for somewhere with more space.

I called up the fortwenty(the section of fort that does exhibition) gallery manager Pete and he seems keen, we seem keen, space will restrict us but alot less than not having a venue at all will...

  9. I think the fort is our best bet atm... in a pervious blog someone said they were gonna put up the floor plans...?!? have they been put up? is there any chance we could see them... i think as long as there is enough room, the fort would be great.
Hope to see the floor plans soon.

  10. ITs $500 for just the one night not the 3 days...Sorry to burst everyones bubble
Everyone will have to help pack up after we finish so one team isn't there all night packing up.

Nigel said he wants a real gallery, even though an old church conference room or what ever would be cool the lighting wouldn't work so well.
